Wild Game Cookbook Winner National “Best Books 2007″ Awards

GAME FOR ALL SEASONS COOKBOOK, a new wild game cookbook by Jackson author Harold Webster, has been named an award-winning cookbook in the National “BEST BOOKS” 2007 Awards (BBA). Awards were presented for titles published in 2007 and late 2006.

Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of USA Book News, says of the awards, “The 2007 results represent a phenomenal mix of books from a wide array of publishers throughout the United States.” Winners and finalists traversed the publishing landscape: Simon & Schuster, Penguin-Putnam, HarperCollins, Random House, McGraw-Hill, Houghton Mifflin Co., John Wiley & Sons & hundreds of independent titles contributed to this year’s outstanding BBA competition. Keen adds, “BBA’s success begins with the enthusiastic participation of authors and publishers and continues with our distinguished panel of industry judges who bring to the table their extensive editorial, PR, marketing, and design expertise.”

In GAME FOR ALL SEASONS Webster, a veteran hunter, fisherman, and chef delights sportsmen and those who cook game with 292 seasonal recipes for venison, fish, fowl, and other delicacies from the field and waters. Included with the recipes are memoirs that chronicle Webster’s passion for hunting and fishing throughout his life. These vignettes-including The Long Walk with Jake, Young as a Spring Turkey, and Trash Fish or Southern Comfort-will entertain and educate with stories about the game being hunted, prepared and cooked.

Fans of Webster’s previous wild-game cookbooks and his popular newspaper column will recognize his expert advice on handling, preparing, and serving game. Webster knows that the sportsman’s experience doesn’t end when the gun or the fishing gear has been put away. The challenge and reward of the quest are continued when the game is prepared into fabulous meals to be shared with friends and family. When the gun, the gear, and the camo are off, sportsmen will find Game for All Seasons an essential resource for creating memorable meals from their bounty.

“I’m honored,” says Webster “for my book to be selected as winner in USA Book News Best Books Awards.” USABookNews.com is an online publication providing coverage for books from mainstream and independent publishers. JPX Media, in Los Angeles, California, is the parent company of USABookNews.com.

NRA Members’ Wild Game Cookbook Available for Holiday Purchase

Pinpointing holiday gift ideas for the outdoorsman is never a difficult task. Hunters always need something, be it thermal socks, the latest camouflage pattern, optics or guns. But with the hunting season already in full swing and freezers across the country filling up with wild game, the National Rifle Association has a gift idea that the whole family can enjoy this holiday season.

The second edition of the NRA Members’ Wild Game Cookbook, which is now available for purchase, serves up hundreds of original ideas for preparing wild meat and fish - all submitted by NRA members nationwide - that can make your holiday meals both merry and tasty.

The cookbook’s user-friendly format guides hunters through every step in the process of safely taking game from the field to the table. Highlights include easy-to-follow instructions and illustrations for field dressing and processing game animals and fish; nutritional values for a multitude of game meats; recipes organized by type of game (small game, birds, big game, and separate sections for venison and fish); and a section devoted to hunter safety and ethics.

The tried and true recipes found inside the cookbook’s nearly 400 pages are as thought-provoking as they are mouth watering. Recipes for traditional wild game fare - jerky, chili, stew, roasts and burgers - can be found amongst some of the most unique ideas you’ll find anywhere for serving wild meat. Whether you’re craving Marsala Hare, Beaver Pot Roast or Big Buck Chili, the cookbook has a recipe to satisfy every appetite.

The NRA Members’ Wild Game Cookbook is available for purchase through the NRA Program Materials Center by calling 1-800-336-7402 (ask for item number HS 05840), or by visiting http://materials.nrahq.org/go/product.aspx?productid=HS%2005840. The price is $14.95, plus shipping and tax.

It supports the NRA Hunter Clinic Program, a national network of seminars conducted by the NRA Hunter Services Department and volunteer Hunter Clinic Instructors. Together, these books and clinics provide the education that can make you a better, safer, and more responsible hunter.

Ashes Release Collectors’ Edition Of Popular Book, “If It Ain’t Broke, Fix It!”

Gil and Vicki Ash of OSP Shooting School have released a Collectors’ Edition of their authoritative and entertaining book on clays shooting, If It Ain’t Broke, Fix It! Beautifully bound, cased, and autographed, the special limited edition is an ideal Christmas gift for the shotgunning enthusiast.

In a sport where success is defined by breaking things, Gil and Vicki Ash take exception to the old cliché, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” With this first in a series of books, the Ashes’ aim is to teach shooters to break old habits that keep them from reaching their potential and fix the problems with their shooting by developing habits that work better.

While intended primarily as a guide to the fundamentals of hitting clay targets, If It Ain’t Broke, Fix It! includes something for everyone. Even advanced shooters can polish their fundamentals and find pointers to help them add a few birds to their score, and the same shotgunning principles apply to bird hunters.

Gil and Vicki Ash are known for their pioneering work in the visual and mental aspects of shotgunning, and their new book gives liberal coverage to those topics, including a chapter on dealing with eye dominance. Other chapters cover such fundamental topics as breakpoint, stance, grip, focal point, hold point, and developing a good mount and move. Sporting clays shooters will benefit from chapters on how to approach various target presentations, how and what to practice, shooting pairs, and other topics aimed at that sport.

But it is perhaps their approach to teaching the mental game of shooting that most sets the Ashes apart from other shotgunning instructors. In every technique and chapter, the psychology of performance is emphasized, sometimes through anecdotes by and about their students, and often with their legendary humor. It doesn’t take much imagination to realize the lessons of If It Ain’t Broke, Fix It! are as much about life as shotgunning.

The Collectors’ Edition of the 157-page book is leather bound with a matching bound slipcase. The signed and numbered copies are limited to an edition of 500. Written by Gil and Vicki Ash with Ty Adams, it is superbly illustrated with ample full-color photographs. The Collectors’ Edition can be ordered for $129.95 through the OSP School website, www.ospschool.com, or by calling 800-838-7533. Standard edition copies are also available.
