2008 Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania - The organizers of the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show take pride in the fact that for generations, this event has been an ideal place to not only get expert advice and see the latest gear, but also a great way for families to pass on the tradition of hunting and fishing from one generation to the next. To make it even easier, The 2008 Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show has not only expanded the number of fishing companies at the Show, but also made it much easier to walk around the largest outdoor show in North America. As has been the tradition for the past 53 years, the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show will again take place at the State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, February 2-10, 2008.

“The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show is about helping families pass on the traditions and heritage of hunting and fishing from one generation to the next. The Sports Show is THE place for experienced hunters and anglers to introduce their children and grandchildren to the latest and best in hunting and fishing equipment and techniques…and they just might pick up something for themselves along the way too,” said Show Manager, Ed Several.

The Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show attracts outdoor sports enthusiasts from across the country to view the newest hunting and fishing products, plan and book hunts, shop for boats, SUVs, motorcycles, ATVs and RVs, and enjoy a wide range of contests and family entertainment.

This year’s Show includes more than 1,200 hunting- and fishing-related vendors including: nearly 200 hunting-related vendors; more than 30 archery-specific vendors; 40 outdoor-apparel vendors; more than 60 fishing-specific vendors; 23 different game-call vendors and a record number (over 500) of outfitters from around the world.

NEW Features

Expanded Fishing Hall with more fishing tackle- and boating-related vendors and outfitters than ever.

Color-Coded Halls for easier navigation through the Show.

New-Products Area to highlight the very latest in hunting and fishing equipment and gadgets.

Manufacturers demonstrations will be presented on the NEW Bass Pro Shops stage, located next in the Bass Pro Shops booth. The stage will feature manufacturer representatives and experts showing the newest products, offering advice and answering questions.

The Dicks Sporting Goods Casting Stream. Located in the Fishing Hall, it is the site of one of the Try-Before-You-Buy areas and where local fly fishing pros conduct daily exhibitions and answer questions throughout the show.

Daily Attractions

Randy Oitker– Trick-Shot Archer. Twenty-year-old Randy Oitker is a two-time North American Bowhunters World Champion, three-time NABH Shooter Of The Year, and has won 17 national titles. Don’t miss his amazing four-arrow shot. Oitker’s performs many of his favorite tricks while lying on his back and holding his bow like a crossbow. Oitker will perform his amazing archery skills and trick shots three times daily.

Chuck Adams, the world’s best known and most widely published bowhunter, will conduct two daily, one-on-one, bowhunting clinics with contest winners. All show attendees are invited to watch these very informative clinics. Chuck has written 4,550 magazine articles and 10 full-length books.

He has received the Bowhunting World Reader’s Choice Award for ten consecutive years as its most popular writer. He appears 25-30 times each year on ESPN, WGN, and TNN television networks and stars on ESPN’s “Whitetail Country” and “Advantage Adventures” shows. At age 53, he is the youngest person ever inducted into Safari International’s Bowhunting Hall Of Honor and The National Bowhunters Hall Of Fame.

The Art of Backyard Butchering

Albert Wutsch will share his butchering skills during daily live deer butchering sessions. Sessions will include: fabricating one side of a hanging carcass; breaking down carcasses into sub primal cuts; fabricating cuts into steaks, roasts, stir fry, butterfly and other cuts. Wutsch’s presentations were some of the most popular seminars at last year’s show.

Mobile Fish Tank.

Bass Pro Shops Mobile Fish Tank, sponsored by Bass Pro Shops is 53-feet long and holds 6,000 plus gallons of water and an array of hungry large-mouth bass. Come and watch as local and national fishing experts demonstrate the latest in fishing tackle as well as the most popular and effective ways to land the big ones. Seminars will be conducted several times daily.

Taste of the Great Outdoors

On Tuesday, February 5, from 5 to 6 PM, students from the culinary school at Harrisburg Area Community College will present a variety of delectable game and fish recipes in the Small Arena to the hundreds of attendees who can’t wait to sample unique game recipes and learn new cooking techniques from the professionals.

Roses Wild in concert. Rising new country singing sisters-act, Roses Wild will bring their own brand of country music to the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show February 5th and 8th at 6:00 PM in the Small Arena. For more information, visit http://www.roseswild.com.

Military to Compete in USA Shooting Air Gun Match

Colorado Springs, Colorado - More than 200 rifle and pistol airgun shooters from across the United States as well as Canada, the Czech Republic, France and Puerto Rico will gather at the U.S. Olympic Shooting Center Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 to compete at the 2007 USA Shooting Three Times Air Match. This three-day event will serve as a qualifier for the Bavarian Airgun Match, which will be conducted in Munich, Germany, in January.

Among the athletes competing are 2004 Rifle Olympic Gold Medalist Matt Emmons of Browns Mills, N.J., as well as rifle Olympians Emily Caruso of Fairfield, Conn., two-time Olympian Sgt. 1st Class Jason A. Parker of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit of Fort Benning, Ga., 1996 Olympian Navy Reserve Lt. Eric Uptagrafft of Firestone, Colo., and pistol Olympians Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Callahan of Columbia, S.C., Rebecca Snyder of Grand Junction, Colo., and two-time Olympian Sgt. 1st Class Daryl L. Szarenski of the Army Marksmanship Unit.
